You’ve never seen a bathtub quite this big! Last week, Lower 4 (Year 8) went on an expedition to Bath to explore the Roman Baths, learning about a bathing experience like no other and getting a glimpse of ordinary life more than 1,000 years ago.
They immersed themselves in the site’s rich history with a guided tour of the Baths and even drank the famous spring water. Girls also carefully studied a range of material remains, including the Gorgon’s Head – a fierce image of a water god who looked down on all who entered the precinct of the Temple of Sulis Minerva. It was fascinating to see signs of people from the past, like coins and signet rings lost in the Baths, as well as learning about the hypocaust system and drains that provided the supply of hot water to the Baths. Plus, they actually MET a couple of those people from history, having fun speaking with a Roman soldier and slave!
