Year 4 buzzing to visit Princesshay Beehives

Year 4 girls bumbled along to Princesshay earlier this month for a fascinating insight into the busy world of bees!

As part of their Science lessons, they had the chance to see the bees at work through some glass panels of the Princesshay Beehives, which forms a key part of Princesshay’s environmental initiatives housing approximately 240,000 bees overall. They carefully observed a new frame and inspected the colony to identify the queen and any newly born bees, then headed outside to the tranquil rooftop garden to don some beekeeping suits and see the hives up close, searching for wax and honey. Girls really enjoyed dressing up as authentic beekeepers and were superb around the bees – some of the class even held a drone on their hand!
