We’re so incredibly proud to offer a tremendous congratulations to outstanding Upper Sixth (Year 13) student Willow for being one of the latest recipients of a prestigious Blue Boy Award!
Blue Boy Awards are given by the St John’s Hospital Educational Foundation to selected local students going above and beyond to be as true pillars of their school community, from raising money for charity and striving to make a positive wider impact to selflessly supporting their peers closer to home: from this, it is abundantly clear that Willow more than deserves this special recognition of her tireless contributions to the school and beyond.
Her citation for the award reads, “Willow is a young woman with a profound social conscience who displays remarkable drive and initiative. She never allows the grass to grow under her feet, highlighting the impact that one individual can make with lots of small acts of kindness. She has been involved in numerous charitable endeavours outside of school: working in an Oxfam shop, running Macmillan Coffee Morning events and volunteering as a befriender with the NSPCC and Childline. Elsewhere, Willow has acted as an advocate for those whose voice isn’t always heard, raising awareness of issues faced by the LGBQT+ community, including arranging charitable link ups and visiting speakers. Remarkably she has also shone in Young Enterprise, the Great Big Dance Off, promoted science through the Gold Youth STEMM award, and been a lynchpin of numerous musical ensembles. Her humble and positive approach carries others with her and she is a wonderful example to younger students as part of our Head Girl Team.”
Willow received her award along with other winners at the Bishop’s Palace yesterday evening, in the presence of the Bishop of Exeter, Rt. Rev’d Dr Mike Harrison, the Chair of St John’s Hospital Educational Foundation, David McGahey, as well as Willow’s family and other honoured guests.
The Foundation itself is an incredible charity which has offered lifechanging financial support to young women who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford their choice of education.
