A-level Drama and Music trip to London

Working with the director of the National Theatre and operating a mixing desk of 180 microphones in the BBC outside broadcast unit with the engineer for the Last Night of the Proms were just two of the activities undertaken by our A-level Drama and Music students this week. In under 24 hours they also got to attend ‘The Threepenny Opera’ and the accompanying Student Drama Conference which involved a Q and A with National Theatre Director, Rufus Norris, a ‘Brecht in Practice’ lecture by leading Brecht theorist, David Barnett ( York University), and an opportunity to direct members of the professional cast on the Olivier Stage in a ‘Page to Stage’ experience. One final treat for the musicians was to see The Virtual Orchestra (the Philharmonia) which featured Old Maynardian, Katy Woolley, on principal horn! It was truly an amazing day.
