The Under 14 hockey team played exceptionally at the West Hockey Finals on Tuesday 8 November, only missing out on a place in the finals by the narrowest of margins.
In their pool matches, the team drew against Bryanston and Clifton College but claimed victory over Cheltenham Ladies College to progress through to the Quarter Finals where they met Devon County Champions, Blundell’s. A hugely close match eventually went to penalties and the Maynard held their nerve to seal an important 2-1 victory on the final flick!
In the semi-final match against Marlborough College we were extremely unlucky to let a goal through in the first 30-seconds of play from which we were unable to recover. Unfortunately this meant we were knocked out of the tournament by the narrowest of defeats 1-0.
Congratulations to the whole team for some excellent team work and true shows of sportsmanship. This is one of the finest results to be posted by a Maynard team at regional level and is testament to the excellent coaching they receive at School. We are proud to be one of the top four teams in the West, especially as we drew 0-0 at the pool stage against the eventual winners!
