If you are looking for something to do for the rest of July and love songwriting then this might be for you!
St Catharine’s College, Cambridge has recently launched ‘Stem in Song’, a nationwide competition for girls in school years 7-11 to write song lyrics about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The winning lyrics will be set to music by composer Gwyneth Herbert, and will be performed and recorded by the girls’ choir at St Catharine’s. The song will also form part of a concert programme to be performed in Cambridge, London, and elsewhere throughout 2018.
The competition has some exciting judges lined up, including medical historian Professor Mary Dobson, author Sophie Kinsella, physicist Lady Welland, and ‘Call the Midwife’ actor Stephen McGann.
The deadline for entries to the competition is Monday 31 July and all shortlisted entries will be invited to St Catharine’s College to read their lyrics for the judges. Prizes will be awarded to the top contenders. Further details and competition rules can be found at www.steminsong.com.
