The traditional dressing up as a favourite character from a book inspired an array of imaginative outfits in the Junior School and Pre-Prep on World Book Day (Friday 8 March 2019). We were also treated to two author visits and writing workshops, the first from Matt Oldfield who writes fun footballer biographies for children with his brother Tom. This visit was especially significant as Rosie, one of the girls in Year 6, had won it as a prize in the recent Story Explorers competition organised by the National Literacy Trust. The second was with Claire Barker, award-winning author of Knitbone Pepper and Picklewitch and Jack designed exclusively for the Years 3 and 4.
Elsewhere, in the Senior School the ‘book cover’ door competition created the customary rivalry between the classrooms resulting in some stunningly creative displays from ‘Jaws’ (complete with half eaten, bloodied Barbie and an ingenious mechanism that opened and closed the mouth with the movement of the door), through to ‘Up!’ and a massive Mr Men display that involved almost every window and wall in one of the Lower 5 classrooms.
