Our amazing adventurers just can’t be stopped! Even before the new academic year started this week, girls taking part in the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s award were completing their extraordinarily self-sufficient journey in the great outdoors on an expedition to the Lake District.
At the end of August, the plucky DofE participants enjoyed a fantastic four day trip, putting their meticulously practiced navigation, team and problem-solving skills to the test: not a group to do anything by halves, they canoed almost the entire length of Windermere – roughly 16km! – then climbed to approximately 400m in the mountains above, and returned from their lofty heights to Coniston Lake, not to mention breaking up their journey by camping at various locations in the spectacular Lake District wilderness.
They demonstrated remarkable independence and were ready for anything, carrying their own tents, food and other crucial equipment in order to complete this essential part of their Gold award. Despite the challenge, they brought enthusiasm and a brilliantly positive attitude throughout, even in some of the less than savoury weather! Very, very well done to everyone who took part for finishing such a momentous expedition! We couldn’t be prouder!
