In the Drama Department over the lockdown months we have taken the wonderful opportunity to access the many online performances available to view. Girls throughout the school have been watching and reviewing shows such as ‘The Railway Children’ and ‘The Midnight Gang’, ‘A Monster Calls’, ‘Anthony and Cleopatra’ and ‘Jane Eyre’ – the resulting observations have ranged from excited and enthusiastic to academically critical and high level; such a great resource for us all.
We have focused on design and learning new terminology for KS3 students this term. Interactive booklets were produced focusing on learning and firming up theatrical terminology. Students were then charged with creating colourful, detailed design work in a scheme based around creating unique new stage productions from books/novels/ stories/Shakespearean plays. Some exceptional ideas have emerged which have been beautifully presented both on paper and digitally.
Exam students have been having interactive lessons on Teams and we switched the focus from practical work to the written elements of both A-level and GCSE. In both cases the set texts of Component 3 and the live theatre elements have proved well suited to this way of teaching and the girls have worked hard to produce practice essays and connect with the tasks.
