Rising to new heights at the Cityscape Architectural Design competition

What could the space outside Exeter Library be transformed into with the help of fresh ideas and creativity? At the Cityscape Architectural Design competition organised by the Royal Institute of British Architects, two amazing Maynard teams had the chance to explore their wildest imaginations and come up with their own answers to this question!

Girls headed over to the Royal Albert Memorial Museum last week for a fascinating day working with architects who guided them to make their suggestions for the space architecturally sound. The sky was the limit for their lofty ambitions, and each team produced architectural drawings and 3D models, drafting detailed concepts for how the space could be repurposed.

They worked tirelessly and came away with a wholly unique insight into careers in the field: with several recent leavers having pursued architecture at university, including Architectural Engineering at Imperial College London and Structural Engineering at the University of Bath, this competition might just inspire even more Maynardians to explore this path!

Very well done to all who took part, and a special shout out to Bluebell who won a £100 voucher for the best 2D drawing! Plus, the STEM fun never stops, as this Saturday more girls are off to the University of Exeter for the UK Space Design Competition – wishing them the absolute best of luck!
