The Maynard School: Devon’s top independent school again for A-levels

Posted on February 20, 2025

The Maynard has, once again, consolidated its place as the highest-ranking independent school in Devon in key areas of the Department for Education’s Schools Performance League Tables, based on A-levels results from summer 2024.

  • The school sealed its position as the cream of Devon’s crop with the highest ‘average result’ (ie. the average grade and average points that students achieved per A-level entry):
  • The Maynard again topped the tables for the ‘grades and points for a student’s best 3 A-levels’ measure.
  • It was also rated Above Average’ for the ‘Progress Score and Description’ which measures the progress students make between the end of Key Stage 4 (GCSEs) and the end of their A-level studies. As a selective school with excellent GCSE results, it’s especially difficult to score highly in this field, so this result is concrete proof of the undisputed benefits brought by our totally female-centric learning environment geared entirely to bringing out the absolute best in every single student.

“What a year it has been already,” said Liz Gregory, Head at The Maynard. “To again be the top academic independent school in Devon, as well as the Sunday Times ‘South West Independent School of the Year 2025’ is absolutely phenomenal and I couldn’t be prouder of our inspirational community. We’re a school synonymous with our hashtag ‘MadeForGirls’, and there’s no better evidence to support this claim than with these two brilliant accolades!”
