Top GCSE artists commended by OCR

A trip through the art studios makes it abundantly clear that our young artists are just incredible, and last year’s GCSE students were no exception! All artists produced marvellous work and Anna and Hazel, now having stayed at The Maynard into Lower Sixth (Year 12), were specially commended by OCR for their GCSE Art pieces in summer. Such a brilliant accolade celebrates that they were among the top scorers nationally.

As seen in the photo, Anna’s marine piece is based on her experience living on a boat in the French Polynesian ocean, and her garden painting draws from the historic Dartington Hall. Hazel’s Manet-inspired flower painting references themes of vanitas with the pink petals symbolising hope, and her nature artwork was prompted by views of her own garden, even featuring her cat Timmy.

Anna said that it “was so unexpected” for them to learn of their absolutely fantastic grades on GCSE Results Day – Hazel said, “I even asked them to check if my score was correct!” – and both were very understandably over the moon! Huge congratulations to them for their amazing achievement!
