Year 5 explore Brunel’s SS Great Britain

Year 5 set sail for a time long past on their latest school trip exploring Brunel’s SS Great Britain in Bristol! She’s described as ‘one of the most important historic ships in the world’, being one of the vastest of her time in the mid 1800s, uniquely built of iron, and driven with a then newly invented screw propeller.

Girls were enraptured by such a piece of history linking to their Victorian topic and had a wonderful time touring the ship and witnessing wax statues to get the full experience. Then, as part of a brilliantly immersive passenger workshop, the girls dressed up as some of the passengers, learnt about where they were travelling to, what their jobs were and if they had families. A fascinating day for all!
